On August 25, 2015 – about a month after having h er colostomy reversal surgery – Kanya landed in the ER. A MRSA infection was raging in two different places. She required an emergency surgery to drain an abscess and cut out part of her colon where it had gone septic. The surgeon was forced to reinstate a temporary colostomy because the tissue was too damaged to reconnect to her rectum. She's now in recovery for 4-6 weeks. She has exhausted all benefit options in her workplace, so she is currently on leave without pay. The medical bills have been piling up since being diagnosed with Crohn's Disease in December 2009.
